The actress was born on 18 July 1989 in Mumbai, India. She is the daughter of Satish Pednekar, who was a former home and labor minister in the government of Maharashtra, and Sumitra Pednekar, an anti-tobacco activist. Her mother is a Haryanvi and her father is a Maharashtrian.
She grew up in a mixed-culture family and was brought up as a multilingual person. She did her schooling from Arya Vidya Mandir in Juhu. She also took up acting, Communication & Media Arts in Whistling Woods International Institute in the city of Mumbai. She had a yen for acting since her childhood and confessed her desire to pursue it.
As a youngster, she had an intense love for films and cinema. She was a big fan of Bollywood movies and performed in them. She also took up dance as a hobby.
In her early years, she did not like to talk about her weight or body size. She wanted to be beautiful and strong despite her size. In her first movie, Dum Laga Ke Haisha, she played the role of an obese housewife. She gained a lot of weight for the role but she lost it later on and continued to lead a healthy lifestyle.
