Esha Gupta is an Indian film actress, model, and the winner of the Miss India International title in 2007. She has established herself as one of the top-notch Bollywood actresses.
She was born on 28 November 1985 in New Delhi, India. She is the daughter of a retired Air Force officer and homemaker. She has a younger sister, Neha Gupta.
After school, she graduated in Mass Communication at Manipal University in the state of Karnataka. She was awarded a law-related scholarship to study at Newcastle University, but she dropped her studies midway. She was then offered a job as a model in Bollywood.
During her career, she has appeared in several films including Jannat 2 (2012), Chakravyuh (2012), Gori Tere Pyaar Mein (2013), Raaz 3D (2012), Humshakals (2014), Baby (2015) and Veedevadu (2017). She has also appeared in several TV commercials and advertisements for different brands and products.
Her first big break was in the 2012 commercially successful murder thriller Jannat 2, in which she co-starred with Emraan Hashmi. This earned her a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.
She was praised for her performance by film critic Taran Adarsh of Hindi Film Hungama. The critic wrote, “Debutante Esha Gupta enchants you with her captivating charm. She is a tad unrefined at certain points, but she handles her part assertively.”
The following year, she made a cameo in Sajid Khan’s comedy caper Humshakals alongside Saif Ali Khan, Ritesh Deshmukh and Ram Kapoor. Box Office India branded the movie as a “disaster.”
In 2014, she starred in a romantic drama titled Baadshaho with Ranveer Singh. It became the highest grossing Bollywood film of that year.
She then starred in the crime drama Rustom, alongside Emraan Hashmi and Bipasha Basu. The film earned Rs 165 crore at the box office in its first three days of release.
It also received mixed reviews from critics. Komal Nahta of India Today wrote, “Esha Gupta is stiff as Sanjana but does much better towards the end (when she almost goes berserk). She reveals some raw edges.”
Her most recent release was the horror film Raaz 3D, which received a mixed reception from the audience. It was released on 25 January 2013.
Recently, she has been body-shamed for her racy photoshoot. The images were posted on her Instagram account and she has received a lot of hate comments from people on social media.
When she was interviewed about the controversy, she said that she doesn’t care what the comments say because she got more love than those negative comments.
She has been a part of many initiatives and campaigns to uplift the environment and educate girls. She has participated in Beach Cleanup Drives, walks for saving the mangroves and forests and has been associated with the Surman Sansthan organization for girl child upliftment.
She has a net worth of 40 crores and owns a luxury apartment in Mumbai. She is known for her flamboyant personality and she is often featured in advertisements and TV commercials.
