The actress who has won the hearts of everyone with her sultry avatar in 2022 thriller Yashoda, recently joined Varun Dhawan starrer Citadel India. The upcoming original spy series is helmed by Raj & DK and is set in the Russo Brothers’ Citadel universe.
Previously, she had made an impact across India with her appearance in Pushpa: The Rise Part 1 and her dance number Oo Antava, which still has the audiences grooving to it. She has an interesting line up of projects in her kitty including Shaakuntalam and Kushi.
On Wednesday, filmmaker-duo Raj and DK announced Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s association with their upcoming web series Citadel on social media. The renowned creative duo shared a picture of the actress in which she looked dapper in a leather jacket and black jeans. They also said, “Super excited to team up with this powerhouse once again!”
It was a surprise announcement from the streaming platform and fans are thrilled to know that the actor will be starring in Citadel India. As per reports, the production unit has already begun shooting in Mumbai and will soon head to North India. Afterwards, it will travel to Serbia and South Africa.
This is the second project that the actress has collaborated with Raj and DK after their hit web series The Family Man 2. It’s a global-event series and a collaboration of Prime Video with ‘Russo Brothers’ AGBO.
As the news broke, many celebrities welcomed the star on Twitter and wished her luck. One of them even said, “Queen is Back!”
The filming unit of Citadel India is currently being shot in Mumbai and will go to other parts of the country for the same. They are planning to shoot at various locales like North India, Serbia and South Africa.
Aparna Purohit, head of India Originals at Prime Video, also announced that the Indian version of Citadel will feature a larger canvas than the US counterpart and has a retro-rooted and quirky treatment. The upcoming spy series is being helmed by Raj and DK, and will feature a stellar cast including Varun Dhawan.
With Raj & DK steering the ship and a terrific cast, Purohit also stated that she is confident that the upcoming series will be nothing short of a spectacle.
Apart from the Indian version, Prime Video is also working on several other local-language Citadel productions in the future. The first-to-launch series in the franchise features Richard Madden (Bodyguard) and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, while Stanley Tucci (The Hunger Games saga) will also be part of this world.
Other shows in the universe will be produced by D2R Films and Amazon Studios. Executive producers on the Indian original and all other series in the Citadel universe include AGBO’s Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot, Scott Nemes, and David Weil, along with Josh Applebaum, Andre Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Scott Rosenberg.
Earlier, there were reports that Samantha was withdrawn from the project due to her health issues, but she has officially joined it as her publicist confirmed in an interview with People magazine that she is doing just fine.
