Shama Sikander is an Indian actress, model, and owner of a design company called Saisha. She is best known for her roles in the television series Ye Meri Life Hai and Vikram Bhatt’s web series Maya, which both received critical acclaim.
She has been acting since the age of sixteen. Her first film was Prem Aggan (1998), in which she played the role of Pooja. She then starred in Mann (1999), Ansh: The Deadly Part (2002), Dhoom Dadakka (2008), Contract (2008), and Bypass Road (2019).
Born on 4 August 1981 in Makrana, Rajasthan, India, she is the daughter of Gulshan, a housewife and Sikander Gesawat, a marble supplier. She has three siblings: Khalid, Rizwan, and Salma. She enrolled at the Roshan Taneja School of Acting in Mumbai and graduated in 1995.
In 2010 she starred in the supernatural thriller Seven (2010-2011 Hindi) produced by Bollywood juggernaut Yash Raj Films, based on a story by renowned author Vikram Chandra. The program was lauded by critics as daringly different and garnered huge response through platforms like Internet, e-mails, and social networking sites.
The 2010-2011 season was her debut in a leading TV role and she received positive reviews from viewers and critics alike. Sify’s Sonia Chopra commented that “Shama Sikander [is] earnest enough… molten-hot and superbly styled” and that her portrayal of “Shunyaa” was “hugely appealing”.
Her television career flourished and she went on to appear in many TV shows including 43 (2005), CID (2006), Jodee Kamaal Ki (2007), Kaajjal (2008), Seven (2010), Baal Veer (2012-2014), and Kaal Veer (2017). She also became a host of the entertainment channel Zoom’s Popkorn Newz for one season.
She has been seen in numerous music videos including Raat Chandani (2001), Mehfil Mitran Di (2001), Baje Jo Bansi Thama Karo (2002), Kabhi Mausam Hua Resham (2002) and Hawa Karda (2021). She is an avid dog lover and often posts pictures of her dogs on social media.
She has recently tied the knot with her longtime partner James Milliron in a dreamy white wedding in Goa on March 14. In an interview with Vogue, she opened up about how her husband helped her through bouts of depression when they started dating. He stuck by her through those tough times and refused to leave her.
