Vijay and Lokesh Kanagaraj are teaming up for the second time for their upcoming film. The two had worked together on Vikram. This was a major hit and emerged as the highest-grossing Tamil blockbuster. It was released in 2022 and featured Kamal Haasan in the lead role.
Vikram was a commercial success and Lokesh was able to make a name for himself in the South Indian film industry. His subsequent films, including Master, Maanagaram, and Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu, all made a mark on the box office. He won over the hearts of viewers with his self-confidence.
While working on his upcoming project, Lokesh is focusing on creating his own cinematic universe. The Lokesh Cinematic Universe is a collection of films that carry the same story line. One of the films, Kaithi, is set to be released in 2019. Another film in the series is Master. In this, Lokesh penned dialogues and co-wrote the script with Rathna Kumar. Anirudh Ravichander composed the music for the film.
There is still no official announcement on the roles played by Vijay and Trisha in Thalapathy 67. However, the movie is reportedly an action drama. It is also expected to feature Sanjay Dutt as the antagonist. As part of the production, there have been reports of a hush-hush pooja ceremony last week.
Lokesh is known for his work in action thrillers. His first film was a short film titled Aviyal. After this, he directed Maanagaram, the first feature film of his career. Since then, he has had four back-to-back commercial successes. And he is preparing for his fifth directorial venture.
Before Vikram, Lokesh and Suriya had worked together on a film called Varisu. While the film didn’t garner the same kind of popularity that Vikram did, it was a great success. Featuring Kamal Haasan, Suriya, and Fahadh Faasil, it was a box-office success, grossing Rs 426 crore worldwide. Afterwards, Lokesh and the police joined hands to help solve a major drug bust.
After Vikram, Lokesh and Vijay are set to work again on Thalapathy 67. It is scheduled for a December release and is expected to be an all-out action drama. Manoj Paramahamsa is directing the film and there are popular technicians involved in the project.
According to reports, Thalapathy 67 will have an all-star cast. Sanjay Dutt and Gautham Menon are reportedly joining the cast. Though these stars are not confirmed yet, fans are hoping to see the two reunite after fourteen years.
There are also reports of the new film launching in a few weeks. Producer Lalith Kumar said that it is expected to be a success within ten days of its release. But he is not sure about the title.
Meanwhile, there are speculations about a spin-off film that will be centered around Suriya’s character, Rolex, from Vikram. Fans can expect a big announcement on Pongal.
